Painting by Julie Black
Julie Black  is a powerful vocalist & songwriter who spins tales of fire, passion & fury! Called "a major singing and songwriting talent" by Blues Revue Magazine, her rich, soulful voice conjures up raw emotions. She's hit the charts at XM Satellite Radio & Roots Music Report and appeared on radio & television. Now she's setting the world on fire with her newest release "You Just Might Win" (BOJA 2009) which features 15 powerful songs to liberate your soul.
Currently based in Tampa Bay, Julie's roots extend into Illinois & California. Her musical taste was defined early in life, when she fell in love with Solomon Burke's 45 record Cry to Me. By the age of twelve she was crafting her own songs, a skill that flourished in adulthood. She's a prolific songwriter who has penned well over 500 songs & continues to find inspiration everywhere. Her songs reflect a passion for Blues while incorporating flavors of other musical genres. The result is a signature sound all her own.
In 2007, Julie Black's critically acclaimed debut album Call Me Angel for Blues was released by BOJA Records, the independent label of music veteran Bob Langford (The Allman Brothers, James Brown, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Joe South). The album was mastered by Rodney Mills of the legendary Rodney Mills Masterhouse (R.E.M., Charlie Daniels, Gregg Allman, Pearl Jam, Journey, Patsy Cline, Merle Haggard, Candi Staton and the Blind Boys of Alabama). An instant favorite of music lovers & radio DJ's, Call Me Angel for Blues had a steady hold on music charts & was named one of the Top 5 Contemporary Blues Albums of the Year (2007) by Blues Critic Radio.
An artist in every sense of the word, Julie is also a painter & sculptor. Both of her albums contain original artwork. With a head full of ideas, any blank canvas is fair game.
Julie Black proudly performs with her tight band of hand-selected, world-class musicians. Long time band members include; guitarist Dave Eichenberger (one of the Steinberger family of artists), keys monster Michael Johnn & bassist "Father" Bill Spicuglia who all play on recordings & at live shows. Concerts are powerful & inspired, drawing crowds ready to soak up the creative energy! Julie has shared the bill with artists like; Bettye LaVette, Buddy Guy, Magic Slim & the Teardrops, Chris Thomas King, Larry Garner and Coco Montoya. She has performed at music events like Clearwater Sea Blues Festival, Tropical Heatwave, Dunedin Wines the Blues, Gasparilla Festival of the Arts and at popular venues including; The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, The Palladium Theatre & The House of Blues. Black and her band are breathing fresh air into the music scene, reviving listeners with a sound that transcends time & genre.
