Julie Black is a powerful songwriter & vocalist whose rich, soulful voice conjures up raw emotions. Currently based in Florida, Julie's roots extend into Illinois & California. Her musical taste was defined early in life, when she fell in love with Solomon Burke's 45 record Cry to Me. She began crafting her own music by the age of twelve, a skill that flourished in adulthood. Julie is a prolific songwriter who has penned a remarkable number of songs (in many different genres) & continues to find inspiration everywhere. An artist in every sense of the word, she is also a painter & sculptor and both of her albums feature all original artwork.
In 2007, Julie Black's critically acclaimed debut album Call Me Angel for Blues was released by BOJA Records, the independent label of music veteran Bob Langford (Deep Purple, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Joe South). The album was mastered by Rodney Mills of the legendary Rodney Mills Masterhouse (R.E.M., Charlie Daniels, Gregg Allman, Pearl Jam, Journey, Patsy Cline, Merle Haggard, Candi Staton and the Blind Boys of Alabama). A fast favorite of music lovers & radio DJ's, Call Me Angel for Blues had a steady hold on music charts & was named one of the Top 5 Contemporary Blues Albums of the Year (2007) by Blues Critic Radio.
